Some kind of Bush

Some kind of Bush

I don't know what it is called. Has long flowery stems that dry to have sharp points.

I'll need to go back and read that tinyurl in more depth later, ramsey, but it sounds like a good idea.. Thanks!

Double strength Roundup, not the sissy premixed crap, a teaspoon per gallon of dish soap should do the trick for even the most aggressive soft skinned plant. If it has a waxy coating on the leaf start with 1/4 cup of household bleach in a gallon of water sprayed on the leaves about an hour before spraying with the Roundup, to break down the wax. Do it about mid morning if you can, then the Roundup has all day to cook on.

Everyone needs to learn the joys of www.tinyurl.com

Gee, it worked for me just now. Try this way... left click in front of the beginning of the url, then go to the end of it, hold down your shift button and left click again. When the url is highlighted, right click, and select 'copy'. Open new window, right click in the address bar and select 'paste'. Hit 'enter'.

HilWil - I guess the URL was too long for the comment box - didn't work for me.

Giant Hogweed is either an alternate name for Cow parsnip, or a close cousin, I believe.

If you haven't done it yet, check the comments on the stove mailbox again.

You want to read about another scary plant, RJ? This is a long url, but it'll take you right to the article. (I checked to make sure) It's "Giant Hogweed". Sounds like it's even worse than "Cow Parsnip"

Ramsey, HilWil is good isn't she? A regular "nature girl"! ;-)

HilWil, Are you familiar with "Cow Parsnip" (Heracleum maximum)? The leaves look the same as these, but are even larger. The plant is huge - over six feet tall! the leaves can be 1-1/2 feet across, and the flower over a foot across! It looks like giant Queen's Ann Lace.

I have Cow Parsnip near my house. The camp has sprayed it to try to get rid of it because it can be highly poisonous to the touch. It can inflict a mild to a very severe blistering rash depending on the individual. If you see it, DON'T TOUCH IT!

It's hard to kill - I see some coming up this spring! You can mow over it repeatedly, but within days huge leaves reappear! But eventually it does go away where you mow.

If interested, image search for "cow parsnip"

Wow! Like adinasaur land plant! :) I was reading that they are quite an evasive plant and should be planted where it can spread without harming other plants, because this plant always wins out over the smaller ones in the end. The same is for Comfry plants. Almost impossible to kill it too. and plants have been known to grow out of a piece of the root that you dug up and tossed off to the side. Hmmmm...I wonder how these two would tolerate each other?

Mine is a little over 3 feet tall. They grow like weeds if you try and dig them up. Any root left will sprout. It took me a couple of years to kill all the ones under the Rose of Sharon by my bedroom. This one is out a bit from the house and a second one is under a RoS by the kitchen window.

BTW, those leaves are a good six to seven inches across.

This might be Bear's Breech Acanthus Mollis. It said they grow 3-6 feet tall.

How tall are these, ramsey? It's funny, but the leaves look like grape leaves.

Comment on it!
